about

About 'Coral':

'Coral' is an ambient piece that I wrote during the first wave of the pandemic, coincidentally on World Environment Day. I was in my studio trying to create an intro piece for the virtual concerts that I was preparing that year. At that moment I received a notice about a virtual projection of a documentary called ‘La Terre vue du Coeur’ (The Earth Seen From The Heart), through the networks of the Canadian and French embassies. It would only be screened that day. I started composing while watching the documentary.

The documentary explains the consequences of human action and inaction regarding the preservation of our planet's biodiversity. A human part contributes to its destruction and another one works to save it. It explains in many ways the relationship between man and nature, the threat of human activity that is opening the doors to the sixth phase of extinction. I put my attention on the corals. At first glance, coral bleaching might seem like an attractive thing to observe, but it is the opposite. White corals are corals under stress due to the increase in sea temperature. When the planet's temperature increases, the ocean warms and corals create a defense mechanism. Corals expel the algae that live inside them because they oxidize and become toxic. All this made me stir a lot of emotions, added to the strange situation that the pandemic was bringing at that time.

'Coral' accompanied me in my virtual presentations during the pandemic, and today I officially release it.
